Mechanical Engineering Intern

Lake Superior Consulting is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team during the Summer of 2027 based out of our Duluth, MN office.
The Engineering Intern will assist engineers and designers with the development of engineering drawings, project documentation, and other design-related tasks. The position will also provide opportunities to support field activities at project sites, giving the intern exposure to both office-based engineering and hands-on field work. The intern will work alongside experienced professionals to learn engineering practices, company procedures, and the processes involved in completing projects from design through implementation.
Responsibilities:

Assist engineers and designers with the development and revision of engineering drawings using AutoCAD.

Prepare drawings and layouts based on engineering designs, project requirements, and established standards.

Assist with project documentation, drawing organization, and other engineering deliverables.

Support field activities at pipeline and other project facilities, including equipment identification, tagging, and documentation.

Travel to project sites as required, including field assignments of up to two consecutive weeks.

Coordinate with engineering and design teams to incorporate project information and field findings into drawings and documentation.

Learn and apply company and client standards, procedures, and engineering practices.
Position Requirements:
Education, Certifications/Licenses, Experience:

Current Engineering Student with at least 2 years completed in Mechanical Engineering curriculum

Design or operating experience preferred
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Proficient in MSOffice suite

Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Strong organizational skills

Ability to learn quickly and develop professionally
Physical Requirements and Demands:

Frequent periods of standing for long periods.

Occasional lifting in up to 50lbs.

Exposure to weather including heat and cold climates.

Ability to work long hours and possible overtime when projects demand.

Lake Superior Consulting offers a competitive compensation package. The actual starting salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, experience, and office/market location. The anticipated range for this position is $22.00 – $26.00.
