Lake Superior Consulting is seeking a Senior CAD Designer to join our growing team!

This role is responsible for the creation and modification of CAD drawings and 3D models, working closely with our engineering team to develop construction documents from inception through final issuance. Projects will span multiple disciplines including civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, an expert-level understanding of CAD tools, and the ability to coordinate deliverables across diverse technical teams.

As a recognized subject matter expert, the Senior CAD Designer will also oversee large-scale projects or processes with minimal supervision, while mentoring junior designers and ensuring high-quality deliverables.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the production of comprehensive project deliverable packages and associated documentation.
  • Develop and revise detailed 3D piping and equipment models aligned with industry standards and best practices.
  • Modify and correct “As-Built” drawings and incorporate redlined markups from engineers and designers.
  • Draft schematics, layouts, and diagrams (primarily in AutoCAD) to support engineering teams.
  • Coordinate with multiple disciplines to integrate and align design deliverables across project teams.
  • Manage drawing archives and maintain accurate revision histories.
  • Ensure all drawings adhere to internal quality processes; assist in the development and enforcement of drafting standards.
  • Identify and resolve design issues throughout project lifecycle.
  • Mentor and provide direction to junior designers and CAD technicians.
  • Perform advanced calculations with minimal oversight.

Qualifications:

  • A.A.S. degree in Mechanical Drafting & Design or equivalent experience.
  • Expert-level proficiency in AutoDesk 3D products or CADWorx.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience, preferably in mechanical design.
  • Familiarity with materials and standards used in the natural gas and oil pipeline industry.
  • Moderate knowledge of applicable government codes and regulations.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and related databases.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage junior team members and meet project deadlines.
  • Solid mathematical foundation for technical calculations.
  • Proactive, team-oriented mindset with a willingness to learn and adapt.

Lake Superior Consulting offers a competitive compensation package. The actual starting salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, experience, and office/market location. The anticipated hourly rate for this position is $37-$50/hour.
