Structural Engineering Supervisor

This Structural Engineering Supervisor will be responsible for producing high quality engineering services and deliverables through supervision, mentoring, and training of engineers and technical staff.  As a key business leader, this person will provide appropriate design results and responsiveness to clients through excellence in engineering analysis and judgment. 

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a portion of the Structural team through hiring, mentoring, and development of direct reports

  • Design and detail structures for a variety of clients and industries

  • Assist Management Team as the project engineer by leading design and engineering effort of specific projects

  • Develop engineering documents either independently or closely with others (clients, architects, and other professionals) in a team environment.

  • Assume the lead engineer’s role on assigned projects

  • Develop project and construction cost estimates

  • Clearly communicate design ideas using CAD software, redlined PDFs, or hand sketches.

  • Ensure projects follow applicable international, federal, state, and local building codes, and client standards.

  • Interact with clients, engineers, designers, and general office personnel on a regular basis.

  • Travel occasionally to job sites and/or other offices in and out of state.

  • Prepare written engineering reports or recommendations.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited university.

  • PE or SE license preferred but not required

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive structural engineering experience with commercial, industrial, or government clients.

  • Proficiencies at determining loads on and stresses in different parts of a building or structure and modeling the load path and behavior of the whole building or structure using hand calculations, spreadsheets, 2-D or 3-D structural analysis software, and/or 3-D FEA analysis software.

  • Must be familiar with applicable building and material codes and standards.

  • Preferred experience with engineering/design software such as Risa 3D, Risa Foundation, L-Pile, DEEP FND, AutoCAD, CADWorx, AutoCAD, Navisworks, etc.

  • Ability to work either independently or in close collaboration with other professionals

  • Ability to communicate effectively with when dealing with clients, architects, fellow engineers, or the drafting team. 

  • Experience leading multiple projects at the same time is a plus.

  • Strong organizational skills is a plus.

  • Experience in the following markets is preferred but not required: Oil & Gas, Renewable Natural Gas (Dairy and/or Landfill), Substations, Transmission Lines, Helical Piles, and Chemical or General Industrial Facilities.

  • Engineering consulting experience is a plus.

  • Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) project experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements and Demands:

 

  • The job requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.  Routinely use standard office equipment such as but not limited to: computers, phones, copiers, and filing cabinets. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk, and hear.

  • Frequent periods of standing for extended periods.

  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

  • Exposure to weather including hot and cold climates.

  • Ability to work long hours when projects demand.
