Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Auditor - Pipeline Construction

Lake Superior Consulting is seeking a qualified Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Auditor (temporary) to oversee and audit UT inspection activities during pipeline construction projects!

 

This role ensures that all ultrasonic testing performed on pipeline welds and components complies with applicable codes, project specifications, and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in pipeline construction environments and a strong understanding of UT techniques used for girth weld inspection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct audits of UT inspections on pipeline welds, including mainline, tie-ins, and repairs.
  • Review and validate UT procedures, technician certifications, and inspection records in accordance with API 1104, and project-specific requirements.
  • Monitor UT activities to ensure proper technique, equipment calibration, and data interpretation.
  • Evaluate UT reports and digital scan data for accuracy and compliance.
  • Identify and document non-conformances, and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Interface with construction, welding, and QA/QC teams to ensure inspection readiness and quality control.
  • Support third-party and client audits as the UT subject matter expert.
  • Maintain detailed audit logs and prepare comprehensive reports for project stakeholders.
  • Understanding of current with advancements in UT technologies, including phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) and TOFD and AUT Systems.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED (required); technical diploma or degree in NDT or engineering (preferred).
  • UT Level II or III certification (ASNT, ISO 9712, or equivalent) is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of UT experience in pipeline construction, including field-based inspection and auditing.
  • Strong knowledge of pipeline welding processes and NDT requirements under API 1104.
  • Familiarity with digital UT systems and automated scanning tools.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and NDT data management/reporting software.

Preferred Skills:

  • Multi-method NDT certification (e.g., MT, PT, RT).
  • Experience with cross-country pipeline projects, HDD, and station piping.
  • Experience working with EPC contractors and pipeline operators.

Lake Superior Consulting offers a competitive compensation package. The actual starting salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, experience, and office/market location. The anticipated salary/hourly range for this position is $45 – $55 per year/hour.
