Utility Locating Team – Equipment & Fleet Specialist
We are seeking a hands-on, organized, and solutions-driven Equipment & Fleet Specialist to support our growing Utility Locating Team. In this role, you’ll be the operational backbone for our field teams—managing equipment, tools, vehicles, materials, and shop organization to keep our crews running safely and efficiently.
This is a fast-paced, highly collaborative role ideal for someone who enjoys variety, thrives on problem-solving, and takes pride in keeping operations running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Management
- Use and support the Toolwatch asset management system, including training team members.
- Manage equipment calibrations—tracking, scheduling, and coordinating with field teams.
- Maintain visibility into equipment inventory across all U.S. sites.
- Evaluate equipment utilization and work with internal teams to allocate assets.
- Apply LEAN methodologies to reduce operating costs and streamline processes.
- Ensure all calibrated equipment is up-to-date and certification records are maintained.
- Track and manage equipment repairs, maintenance, cleaning, and recurring issues.
- Support the equipment check-in/check-out process, including loading/unloading into company vehicles.
- Assist with shipping, receiving, and transporting equipment/materials to field staff as needed.
Fleet Support
- Assist with check-in/check-out of fleet vehicles.
- Equip trucks with necessary accessories and client-required items.
- Monitor, restock, and organize fleet tools and accessory inventory.
- Shuttle vehicles and trailers for maintenance or project staging.
- Ensure vehicles meet safety and client-specific standards.
- Use the AIRIQ system for data entry, report generation, and identifying coachable events.
- Clean and maintain fleet and utility vehicles, including washing and interior upkeep.
Shop Operations
- Support organization of equipment, materials, and vehicles across LSC shop locations.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly shop environment—daily cleaning, tool organization, waste removal, winter access, etc.
- Ensure shop layout supports safe and efficient access for all Utility Locate team members.
Materials Management
- Assist with loading and unloading materials for projects.
- Track and tag project-specific materials for easy retrieval at project kickoff.
- Maintain inventory of spare materials for future use.
Administrative & Continuous Improvement
- Help define and implement new equipment and fleet processes aligned with growth initiatives.
- Teach and model LEAN methodologies within the team.
- Prepare OPEX and CAPEX requests related to equipment and fleet operations.
- Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Maintain PPE inventory and ensure field staff receive proper protective equipment.
Qualifications
Education & Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Post-secondary education preferred.
- Mechanically inclined.
Experience
- Experience in asset, equipment, or fleet management preferred.
Skills & Capabilities
- Highly self-motivated with the ability to drive progress independently.
- Strong organization and communication skills—both verbal and written.
- Analytical thinker with the ability to diagnose issues and develop quick, practical solutions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Lake Superior Consulting offers a competitive compensation package. The actual starting salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, experience, and office/market location. The anticipated salary/hourly range for this position is $20-$25 per hour.
