Lake Superior Consulting is seeking a Utility Locate Auditor to join our team! 

 

Lake Superior Consulting (LSC) is currently growing at a fast pace, and as part of that growth, we are seeking to fill multiple positions for Line Locating Auditors in the following locations: St Paul, Cottage Grove, Hastings, Rosemount, Apple Valley, South St Paul, Woodbury, Lakeland, Afton, Eagan, Castle Rock, Farmington, Empire, Burnsville, Eagan,  Bloomington, and surrounding areas.  

 

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced utility locating professional who is passionate about quality, safety, and accuracy in the field. As a Line Locating Auditor, you will be responsible for verifying that locates are completed correctly, confirming proper marking standards, and ensuring underground utilities are protected from damage during excavation activities. You will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity and reliability of critical infrastructure while promoting LSC’s culture of safety and operational excellence.

What You’ll Do

In this important field-based role, you will:

  • Respond to locate requests within legal time limits.
  • Verify the accuracy of completed locates and confirm APWA color coding standards were used correctly.
  • Read and interpret utility maps and prints to identify the size and type of underground utilities.
  • Complete required documentation for locates, crossings, excavations, and audit forms.
  • Perform quality audits on locates completed by other technicians.
  • Operate and use electronic locating equipment and related field tools.
  • Gather data, prepare detailed records, and submit reports in a timely manner.
  • Attend daily safety meetings and promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate clearly with project teams and supervisors to ensure work scopes and responsibilities are understood.
  • Complete and maintain operator qualifications (OQs) as required.
  • Assist with line locating or other field activities as needed.
  • Work in compliance with all company, client, and regulatory guidelines and standards.
  • Document and report any incidents, near misses, or opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure all work supports company goals and operational excellence.

What You’ll Bring

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2–3 years of utility locating experience preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of utility locating techniques and standards.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to travel and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Capability to operate a company vehicle and use general hand/power tools.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and documentation.
  • Professional communication skills—both written and verbal.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Commitment to safety, integrity, and high-quality service.
  • Self-motivated and thrives in both team and independent work environments.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a physically demanding outdoor environment.
  • Traverse rugged terrain, excavations, and work around pipe and equipment.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Travel to offsite project locations for extended durations as required.
  • Exposure to all types of weather and terrain.
  • Ability to work long hours as projects demand.
  • Occasional office-based computer work.

Lake Superior Consulting offers a competitive compensation package. The actual starting salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, experience, and office/market location. The anticipated range for this position is $25-29 per hour.
