Lake Superior Consulting is growing and we are seeking a Utility Locate Auditor to join our team!

This individual will be responsible for accurately Auditing and locating marking cables, pipes, and other conduits that carry utilities underground. The Auditor’s efforts protect underground utilities from damage during projects that involve excavation.
This is a daytime, full-time position where overtime is required. We work some weekends as needed and also require you to be physically ready for extended hours in all weather conditions.
You also will be required to travel in our regions to support training as needed.

Your Responsibilities as a Utility Locate Trainer:
- Respond to locate requests within legal time limit
- Verify the locate is accurate and confirm the proper coloring system (APWA marking standards) were used on utilities
- Read and interpret utility maps/prints to identify the size and type of underground utility.
- Complete required paperwork for locates and line crossings/excavations along with audit forms
- Work safely by adhering to LSC and client guidelines and procedures
- Communicate work scopes and responsibilities amongst project specific field-based teams
- Complete and maintain operator qualifications (OQs)
- Operate and use electronic locating equipment
- Gather data, prepare records and reports in a timely manner
- Attend daily safety meetings and submit daily report documentations
- Generate and gather equipment for kickoffs of projects
- Ensure your work is utilized with respect to company goals
- Document and report any incidents, near misses, and opportunities for improvement
- Work in compliance with all technical procedures and guidelines
- Perform quality locate audits on other technicians
- Assist with line locating or other tasks as needed
What we need from you:
- Due to our driver policy, must be 21 years of age or older
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 2-3 years of utility locating experience preferred
- Proficient with utility locating equipment, including electromagnetic locators, ground penetrating radar and other industry technologies.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) to interact clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, utilizing a laptop, and cell phone
- Strong organization skills
- Commitment to working safely and producing high quality, ethical service
- Highly motivated and thrives in a dynamic, team-based and individual environment
- Valid driver’s license is required and a safe driving record
- Capability to operate a company vehicle and use general hand/power tools
- Comfortable working in confined spaces.
- Able to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities.
- Must have strong critical thinking, organizational, problem solving, and troubleshooting abilities
Physical Requirements and Demands:
- Ability to work in a physically demanding outdoor environment, as required
- Ability to traverse rugged terrain, excavations and work around pipe and equipment, as required
- Must be able to travel to offsite locations for extended periods of time
- Frequent periods of standing for long periods
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 lb.
- Exposure to all types of weather and terrain
- Ability to work long hours for extended periods, when projects demand
- Ability to sit at a desk and work with a computer for extended periods

The actual starting salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, experience, and office/market location. The anticipated hourly range for this position is $25-$29 per hour.
